In a spirit of giving at Easter in the Park

The rain held off and drew about 7000 people to the third annual Easter in the Park yesterday.

Mount Mosaic Pastor Joel Milgate said the event was the biggest yet, with 20,000 free items of food and drink given out.

"It was a really good day. Definitely the best one yet."

Mr Milgate said the church decided the best way to celebrate the story of Jesus and the meaning behind Easter was to give to the community.

"Easter in the Park is about sharing the goodness and generosity of Easter with our community. Our community inspires us."

The sun came out and the rain held off until just after the volunteers had packed everything away, he said. Free games, rides, bands, bouncy castles and food at Coronation Park kept people of all ages entertained and reminded them of the meaning behind Resurrection Sunday.

Father Jamie Cantlon said his daughters were having "heaps of fun".

"We heard rave reviews from last year and we thought we'd make the effort to come."

Organiser Renee Ryland was thrilled with how the day went.

"We had to send for sunscreen," she said. "People are happy. You couldn't ask for a better day."
