Bethlehem College were the district's shining lights in the early stages of the 2015 Federation Cup and Marie Fry Trophy being hosted in Tauranga this week.

The tier 1 and 2 secondary school hockey tournament is being played at Tauranga Boys' College hockey turf and Tauranga Hockey Centre. Bethlehem College and Tauranga Girls' College have been drawn in Pool E. When the two teams met yesterday it was Bethlehem who prevailed, 1-0. On Monday Bethlehem beat Gisborne Girls' High School 3-1, but in yesterday's later game lost to Villa Maria College (Christchurch) 4-0.

Girls' College were beaten by Villa Maria College 4-0 on Monday, but bounced back yesterday to beat Gisborne Girls' High School 3-0.

Otumoetai are the only other local college represented in the tournament. In Pool G they have lost 9-2 to St Margaret's College (Christchurch) and 2-0 to Christchurch Girls' High School. Today sees the start of cross-pool play-off matches.
