It was another tough day of spring weather for teams in Tauranga for the national girls' Federation Cup and Marie Fry Trophy tournaments.

Tauranga Girls' College and Otumoetai Colleges stormed into today's semifinals with outstanding victories in the Marie Fry Trophy quarters.

Tauranga Girls' Yazzmine Woodhouse scored goals in the 27th, 29th and 34th minutes to record a memorable hat-trick and a notable win for her school by 3-1 over highly favoured St Kentigern College. The Paul Collins-coached Tauranga Girls' team led 2-0 at the break and went ahead 3-0 early in the second half with Woodhouse's third goal. St Kentigern did get one goal back after 44 minutes, but Tauranga Girls' comfortably held on for a fine win over their Auckland opponents.

Otumoetai, coached by Allan Galletly, scored the only goal in the fourth minute through Sophie Gordon and then held on for a 1-0 win over New Plymouth Girls' High School in their quarter-final yesterday.

In semifinal action today, Tauranga Girls' will face Masterton's St Mathew's Collegiate at 1.40pm with Otumoetai taking on Hamilton's Hillcrest High School at 3.10pm.

Bethlehem College put up a gutsy performance before going down 1-0 to last year's champions Wairarapa College.

Bethlehem will play Palmerston North Girls' High in a play-off game at 1.20pm today.

All games will be played at the Tauranga Hockey Centre, Blake Park.
