The demolition of Jacaranda House, at Tauranga Hospital was well under way this week.
A survey completed on the building 18 months ago showed it was an earthquake-prone hazard.
BOPDHB general manager property services Jeff Hodson said the board decided to demolish the building after the findings were released.
Demolition has been under way for the past six weeks. With the removal of the walls and ceilings inside the building complete, demolition has started on the concrete structure.
Mr Hodson said the project was progressing quickly and the demolition should be complete within two weeks.
