Fraser Cove shops evacuated

About 50 per cent of Fraser Cove shopping centre was evacuated on Saturday after smoke was detected and alarms went off in the Warehouse Stationery store.
Tauranga Fire Service station officer Nigel Liddicoat said a light ballast overheated and emitted smoke, which set off the smoke alarm about 1pm.
This activated the evacuation alarm and "a large amount" of Fraser Cove shops were evacuated as a response.
Mr Liddicoat said the smoking light was "really localised" and once the smoke alarm activated, Warehouse Stationery staff turned the power off to the isolated area.
