Flooding: Tauranga to Rotorua commuters

Wet weather has flooded State Highway 36 Hamurana Rd near Keith Rd, in Ngongotaha, Rotorua.

Ngongotaha Rd between Wikaraka St and Keith Rd was reduced to one lane, Bay of Plenty police said.

This may affect Tauranga commuters heading to Rotorua, turning off the Tauranga Direct Rd onto Hamurana Rd/ SH33.

SH36 from Tauranga to Ngongotaha is closed at Awahou. The New Zealand Transport Agency's website said there was a detour in place via Hamurana Rd and State Highway 33 and State Highway 30, past the Rotorua Airport.

Rotorua police said council contractors were aware and were taking care of diversions.

Motorists are being turned around and people are advised to avoid the area.
