The first 15 stores in the newly-built enclosed mall at Tauranga Crossing will open on Thursday next week.

The new stores will include a bank, beauty therapists, homewares, electronics and a boarding store.

Kiwibank, which has closed some of its NZ Post branches in Tauranga this year, will open a standalone branch in the mall.

The bank's general retail manager Geoff Waller said customers had given good feedback about the standalone branch model.

"Our customer needs are changing and it's important we have the right environment for conversations and our unique customer experience."

Whitcoulls, which recently closed its Tauranga's CBD store, will open anew in the mall.

The next stage of the 45,000m sq mall development will open in April 2019, bringing the total number stores and eateries to over 100 and adding an al fresco dining terrace and garden, entertainment precinct with a six-screen movie theatre, all serviced by more than 1700 carparks.

A number of retailers opened in the 23,000m sq lifestyle centre part of the complex in 2018, including Ezibuy, Farmers, Bed Bath & Beyond and Gilmours.
