Fires spark across Tauranga overnight

Fire fighters across Tauranga were kept busy overnight with a number of call-outs.

Mount Maunganui fire fighters were called to reports of overheated electrical equipment at 5.43pm in OPSM at Bayfair, station offiver Nigel Liddicoat said.

It had started giving off smoke and fumes, he said.

The crew stayed at the business for 23 minutes until it was safe.

Greerton and Tauranga fire fighters were called to 10A Maleme St at 11.17pm where pellets had been set alight, a Tauranga fire fighter said.

The fire had done quite a bit of damage to the building, he said.

The crews stayed at the building for more than an hour containing the fire.
