Fire services are responding to a shelter belt fire between Te Puna and Bethlehem.
The fire is understood to be near the corner of Te Paeroa Rd and SH2.
A reporter from the scene said ash was travelling about 50m from the fire and shops at the Bethlehem Town Centre had closed their doors to stop smoke coming in.
A fire truck had just arrived at the scene.
