A crash that blocked a central Tauranga road has likely been cleared.

A police media spokeswoman earlier said police were called to a two-car crash on Chapel St at the intersection with Cameron Rd about 4.20pm but no one was injured.

The spokesman said one of the vehicles was blocking the road for a time and some motorists had to use a traffic island until tow trucks arrived on the scene.

He said it appeared the crash scene would now be cleared.
