Women's Refuge is preparing for more "hardcore trauma" during lockdown after the first proved to be horrific for many Bay of Plenty women and children.

A community case of Covid-19 was discovered in Auckland on Tuesday, sparking a level 4 lockdown for the entire country.

Essential services, such as social agencies, are allowed to remain open.

One worker says heading into lockdown was a "breeze" compared to the last time.
