Countdown supermarket in Katikati has reopened after the business was closed yesterday following reports construction work on the building was causing people to become ill.
The only supermarket in the town remained closed again today as a precautionary measure after receiving reports of illness from the odours of new
flooring being laid in the building.
Countdown's owner, Progressive Enterprises communications manager Luke Schepen says the supermarket was closed on Wednesday as a precaution.
``We closed yesterday because of unexpected issues from the construction of the new part of the store.
``We are laying down the new flooring in the new store and have had reports from customers and team leaders of odours and illness in the existing store.''
Mr Schepen said immediate steps were taken to close the building as a precautionary measure and while safety assessment tests were carried out today.
He says, "we have cleaned down the supermarket area where we believe there was effected areas, the team has gone through and cleaned those areas."
Mr Schepen said they are waiting on test results to come back.
