City's water supplies drop

Nearly half of Tauranga's water supply was hit by a computer malfunction in the Joyce Rd water treatment station - sparking a conservation alert last night.
The plant shut down for 12 hours from 6am yesterday after the computer software which controls production became corrupted.
City water supply manager Peter Bahrs said the problem was a rare and unexpected occurrence. The fault was in one of the communication controllers which allowed the computers to talk to each other.
