Cherry Blossom Festival celebrates blooming of spring

The weather may not be spring-like but the blooming of the season will be celebrated in Greerton, with the Greerton Cherry Blossom Festival set to get under way.

A plethora of entertainment, shopping and dining opportunities for the whole family will be available on September 30 between 10am-2pm.

Greerton Village manager Sally Benning says this is the "eighth year this event has been held and the whole idea about the Cherry Blossom Festival is to celebrate the blooming of spring".

The Greerton Village School is also involved in the festival as a fundraising opportunity, this year hoping to earn enough for a new school playground.

There will also be a custom car show, dance performances from local schools, live music and amusement rides all near the Greerton Village Square.

Ms Benning said her favourite part of the festival was the involvement of local schools.

"I really enjoy seeing the kids on the stage performing. It is always good to see kids getting involved," Ms Benning said.

This has previously been an extremely popular aspect of the event for attendees.

"Years ago the street cars didn't use to come, but since they have been a part of the event ... it brings a whole different audience into Greerton.

"It is good for everybody as it means that the schools get to benefit from people who may not have come otherwise.

"Equally the schools' involvement bring in a different group of people as well. So it works great together."

Ms Benning said the festival had something for everyone.
