The body of a woman found yesterday in a Tauranga estuary has been identified by police as an 85-year-old woman who lived in the area.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said media coverage yesterday prompted a large number of calls to police and they were able to identify the woman.
She lived in the area and had been out walking, he said.
The case would be referred to the coroner but her death was not being treated as suspicious.
