Three Tauranga Girls' College trustees have quit the board because of "ongoing and significant issues" with principal Pauline Cowens.
Chairwoman Judith Logan, Mike Horsley and Eddie Bauckman resigned late last week, but an announcement was only made to staff at midday yesterday.
Mrs Logan, who had served on the board for six years, said today that the resignations were as a result of a "breakdown with the principal".
"We believe our positions have become untenable, and that we are not able to deliver to the standards required of the role.
"Obviously we have not reached the decision lightly, we are very sad that it has come to this."
Mrs Logan would not comment on the reasons for the breakdown with Mrs Cowens.
