Two female Bay athletes have been named finalists for New Zealand's Favourite Sporting Moment Award and their success is up to you.

Luuka Jones and Lisa Carrington have made it into the top ten for the award, which was the only public choice category in the Halberg Awards this year.

The sporting moment award gave New Zealanders the chance to choose the nation's most exciting, remarkable or compelling sporting moment in 2016.

Luuka Jones was shortlisted for winning New Zealand's first ever canoe slalom medal, placing second and getting silver at the Rio Olympics.

Ms Jones' sporting moment was made all the more special when she pulled the thumbs up after her win.

The canoe sprinter won gold in K1 200m and bronze in K1 500m.

The public could vote for their choice online or by text.

The winner would be presented at the 54th Halberg Awards on February 19 at Vector Arena in Auckland.

The finalists were selected by a panel of media representatives who compiled the list.

In a statement Halberg Disability Sport Foundation chief executive Shelley McMeeken said: "The award gives the sport fan an opportunity to recognise New Zealand athletes who may have inspired them, left them in awe or equally made them proud to be a New Zealander".

The full list of finalists were: Brendon McCullum, Luuka Jones, Mahe Drysdale, Lisa Carrington, Eliza McCartney, Nikki Hamblin, Liam Malone, All Blacks, Shane can Gisbergen and Joseph Parker.

Voting was now open until 9pm on February 9 either online at www.sportingmoments.co.nz or by text.
