One person was airlifted to Waikato Hospital after a serious crash between three vehicles in Aongatete left State Highway 2 blocked for hours on Wednesday afternoon.
Three other people were hurt and transported to Tauranga Hospital with injuries ranging from serious to moderate.
A police spokeswoman said reports of the crash between a truck and car at the intersection of State Highway 2 and Wright Rd were received at 3.40pm.

Both lanes of State Highway 2 were blocked for some time. No diversion was in place and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
A police spokeswoman said this evening that police had left the scene by 7pm and that the northbound lane had been opened, but the southbound lane was still blocked.
A St John ambulance spokeswoman said a helicopter had been called to the crash and had transported one person in a serious condition to Waikato Hospital.

She said three people were seriously injured and one was in a moderate condition.
Four ambulances attended the crash.
A Waikato District Health Board spokeswoman said one female was airlifted to Waikato Hospital at about 5pm and was in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, a Bay of Plenty DHB spokeswoman said three people were brought to Tauranga Hospital, all in a mild to moderate condition.
All were treated and discharged yesterday evening.
