So the Tauranga City Council has announced that building consents have reached $33 million.

Could the same council please tell the people of Tauranga what infrastructure they have put/got in place to support this? Sadly, probably nothing as they can't even fix a slip lane at Welcome Bay. (Abridged)

Congrats to those behind the back netball court upgrade at Blake Park.

The courts have been resurfaced, remarked, refenced, and most importantly, lit for night games.

Hopefully allowing senior college netball to finish playing earlier than 9pm on Friday nights.

Expansion of night games for all leagues will be well appreciated.

These courts are also frequently used by the general public for tennis over the summer months.

Well done to all funders.

I am, however, concerned about ongoing tree removal around the park.

A number were home to a thriving tui population, and provided shelter for players and spectators on a fairly exposed site.

They are also enjoyed by those who walk the park on a daily basis. I understand some replanting is to be undertaken near the new hockey turf, thankfully. Replanting of any trees removed should be a priority on this reserve. (Abridged)

I am becoming increasingly disturbed by the way our media misquote and misrepresent much of the information we are presented with.

A recent example is the handling of the issue with Israel Folau.

I wonder how many people have actually read the whole story online or have they just heard what the media have chosen to focus on?

I have just read the full account online and feel this issue has been over-sensationalised to help the media sell their story.

Women's magazines are another example of how the media mislead us as often the front cover headline is quite different to what the actual article says.

Sometimes I feel like burying my head in the sand and switching off all radios, TVs, cellphones etc.

Instead I choose to follow the quote: "Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Philippians 4:8

And last of all, I know it is no longer politically correct to be a professing Christian in our country so I guess we all need to watch our Ps & Qs. (Abridged)
