A powerbox malfunction last night in the Pyes Pa area of Tauranga is expected to leave 56 properties powered by a generator.
Power was restored to customers early this morning after a blown insulator cut supply to a substation late last night.
Powerco Network operations manager Phil Marsh said the fault happened at 10.10pm and initially affected 3500 properties.

A Fire and Emergency (FENZ) spokesman said one truck attended the "small electrical fire" and left within 45 minutes.
