International artists are flocking to Tauranga and more announcements are expected in coming weeks.
In the past two weeks, some major names in the music industry have been confirmed as coming to Tauranga.
American R&B singer and actor Trey Songz will perform in Mount Maunganui on November 6, American rock legends Toto on January 9, American Grammy Award winner and icon Dionne Warwick on November 11 and American rapper Cardi B as part of Bay Dreams on January 2.
Bay Dreams promoters Pato Alvarez and Mitch Lower were excited to be bringing one of the world's most in-demand artists to Tauranga.
"We are so excited to be bringing the hottest act in the world right now. It's super exciting that it's her first time in New Zealand and that she's playing exclusively at Bay Dreams," Alvarez said.
Warwick, announced this week, was the first act named as part of a newly formed Baypark Concert Series, a series providing high-quality international artists and acts targeting mature audiences.
Today, The Merchants of Bollywood - a vibrant theatrical show paying homage to the world of Bollywood cinema that has been seen by more than 2 million people across 20 countries - is the second announcement for the series, being held at Baypark Arena on October 23.
Bay Venues business development manager Gillian Houser said they were excited about their concert series.
Houser, who has a background in touring and managing shows and venues, and even toured Warwick in the 90s, said with two major acts already confirmed, they were in the process of finalising a third for May next year with the announcement due in coming in weeks.
"Dionne's fantastic, she's one of the legends."
The Merchants of Bollywood would require the transformation of the arena to a theatrical stage show - something she described as vibrant and high quality.
Houser said they would be looking to bring at least three or four shows to Tauranga as part of the series, with the potential to include more as long as they were of a certain calibre. She said it would be high quality acts only.
"The main purpose is to bring more entertainment to Tauranga.
"When it comes together it's a good feeling."
