A "simple yet sophisticated" Lake Tarawera home has taken out this year's Supreme Award in the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Registered Master Builders 2017 House of the Year competition.

The results of the regional competition were revealed at a gala dinner tonight at the ASB Baypark in Tauranga.

Urbo Homes Limited won 11 regional awards for three homes at the competition.

They were awarded the Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Registered Master Builders 2017 Supreme House of the Year, a Gold Award and a category win for the Carters New Home $1 million to $2 million award for their Rotorua home.

They also took out all five lifestyle awards for the same property: the Craftmanship Award, the Plumbing World Bathroom Excellence Award, the Heart of the Home Kitchen Award, the Outdoor Living Award and the Gerrand Floorings Interior Design and Style Award.

The company were also awarded a Gold Award and category win for the PlaceMakers Volume/Group Housing $450,000 - $700,000 award for a home in Whakatane, and a Gold Award in the PlaceMakers Volume/Group Housing up to $450,000 category for another home in Rotorua.

Judges said the winning House of the Year sat peacefully and perfectly within its environment on the edge of Lake Tarawera.

"The design of this beautiful home is simple yet sophisticated, incorporating clever use of a variety of materials and fittings which creates a resort-like feel," they said.

"Amazing attention to detail is evident in every part of this project, creating an overwhelming sense of quality. This is a property that will never date but age gracefully. It will provide the owners and future generations with a home that will always be a pleasure to live in.

"The builders have crafted this home with passion, which is a credit to them and their team of subcontractors."

The winning builds were celebrated by Bay of Plenty Central Plateau Registered Master Builders Association members and colleagues from the local construction industry.

There were 18 Gold Award winners from Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau which will now be judged against Gold Award winners from around the country to find the National Gold Reserve finalists.

National category winners and the Registered Master Builders Supreme Awards for House of the Year and Renovation of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on November 25 at SkyCity in Auckland.
