There have been at least four light earthquakes off the coast of White Island in less than 24 hours.
The first was at 9.27pm last night when a 2.8 magnitude earthquake occurred 5km north of the volcanic island.
This 11km deep earthquake was reported as light intensity by GeoNet.
At
1.16am GeoNet recorded a second earthquake, 2.5 in magnitude and 10km north-west of White Island.
At 12.21pm the third earthquake occurred, with a magnitude of 2.8 and 9km in depth.
