A man wandering in front of traffic on State Highway 2 has sparked a two car crash near Papamoa.

A man wandering in front of traffic on State Highway 2 has sparked a two car crash near Papamoa.

Police were called to the collision at 12.23pm after a man was spotted wandering along the highway, near Sandhurst Drive.

A police spokeswoman said the man was throwing paper onto the highway and walked out in front of traffic when another man travelling north slammed on his brakes to avoid hitting him.

It is believed another vehicle drove into the driver's car, which suddenly braked.

The driver suffered a sore neck but was not seriously hurt, the spokeswoman said.
