Tauranga police attended a domestic related incident in Whakamarama this evening.

Police were called to a Whakamara Road address after a woman reported being assaulted by her partner, who then allegedly poured petrol through the house about 5pm.

The victim managed to leave the address and phoned police from another location.

Police said they located the offender just before 6 pm after he also left the property.

It was too early to say what charges if any the arrested person would face.
