Emergency services were called to North Island Mussel Processors in Greerton after a worker got his hand trapped in a piece of machinery.
A fire service spokesman said firefighters were called to the site in Glenlyon Ave just after 1pm yesterday.
Greerton fire service Station Officer Paul Van Kol said on arrival the man had already been freed from the machine and he was sitting in the first-aid room with his hand bandaged.
A St John Ambulance was already in attendance, he said.
The man was treated for minor injuries at Tauranga Hospital and discharged.
Mr van Kol said he had no further details to report about the incident or the type of machinery involved.
"The ambulance was called as a precaution," a Sanford Seafoods spokeswoman told the Bay of Plenty Times.
She described it as a minor incident involving a finger. The man was treated at Tauranga Hospital's Emergency Department. There were no broken bones and he did not need stitches.
A Work Safe New Zealand spokesman said the organisation had been notified of the accident and would be making further inquiries.
No decision had yet been made whether a formal investigation would be needed, and Work Safe would not be making any further comment on the matter at this stage, he said.
