A 76-year-old woman was flown to hospital last night after falling and seriously damaging her shoulder while playing with her grandson.
The Tauranga based Trustpower TECT Rescue helicopter was dispatched to Matarangi on the Coromandel Peninsula on Christmas day at 10:30 pm for the accident.
She was stabilised by St John paramedics before being flown to Thames hospital for further treatment.
Due to the driving distance from the closest hospital and windy roads, the helicopter was tasked to fly the patient.
