The number of burglaries in the Western Bay of Plenty dropped by more than 42 per cent in November, compared to the year before.
New Zealand Police figures reveal there were 97 burglaries reported in the Western Bay in November 2013, the most recent statistics available. The 97 compared to 168 in 2012.
Public place assaults were also down - with 26 reported in November compared to 41 for the same time period the year before.
The statistics show police ballooned the number of officers on foot patrol by 234 per cent to 495 people from 148 in 2012.
Foot patrols usually target locations and times where and when offences are more likely to occur. Undertaking foot patrols in 'hot' locations provides a visible police presence that can deter offending.
