Women across the Bay of Plenty and New Zealand will be taking part in showing their support for World Breastfeeding Week by taking part in the Big Latch On.
Friday will see the eight annual Big Latch On, an event which involves women coming together to try and break the world record for the most women breastfeeding at the same time across the country.
This event was established by Women's Health Action in New Zealand in 2005 and has now taken off globally.
Women's Health Action's Big Latch On co-ordinator Isis McKay said there was more than 110 venues registered from all over the country and more registrations were still coming in.
"We know that many women are struggling with breastfeeding and that our exclusive breastfeeding rates, although climbing, are still falling short of Ministry of Health targets across all populations," she said.
"The Big Latch On aims to connect women who choose to breastfeed with community support services plus, it's also a really fun way of meeting other mums in your community."
