Abnormally cold temperatures on some June mornings meant Tauranga escaped the worst of the wet weather last month - but experts warn plenty of rain is on the way.
June was dubbed "sunny and quite frosty" by Niwa National Climate Centre scientist Georgina Griffiths, after she analysed Tauranga's weather during the first month of winter.
Ms Griffiths told the Bay of Plenty Times Tauranga recorded 36mm of rain for the month - about a third of what the city typically experiences in June.
This made last month the fourth driest June on record for Tauranga and second driest for Te Puke, which recorded 64mm of rain.
"June is usually one of the wettest months for the Bay of Plenty," Ms Griffiths said.
