Restrictions on the movement of kiwifruit nursery stock in Te Puke have been lifted.
The move means nurseries can resume operations and the industry will have access to the plant material it needs to revitalise itself, said John Burke, general manager of Kiwifruit Vine Health (KVH).
Yesterday the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF) announced the lifting of the legal restrictions imposed in June 2011 as part of the effort to contain the spread of the infectious vine disease Psa-V.
Mr Burke said when the restrictions were imposed nurseries in the area were compensated for loss of business.
"Now they can get back in business properly, if they wish, however, the reality is that they will probably only be able to supply the Te Puke area, which is a significant market," he said.
