Armed police have swooped in on residential Tauranga after reports of gunshots having been fired. Photo / file

The Armed Offenders Squad has been stood down after reported "gunshots" were found to have come from a nailgun.

A police media spokeswoman earlier said armed police were responding to a report of a disturbance to a property. It is understood the property is in the Ōtūmoetai.

The caller they heard guns shots, the spokeswoman said.

Armed police were responding "as a precaution" and making inquiries.
