Cyclist flown to hospital after Pyes Pā crash

A cyclist has been flown to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition following a crash in Pyes Pā.

Police were notified about 1pm after a cyclist was found seriously injured following a crash on Kennedy Rd.

Police said a helicopter was tasked with transporting the cyclist to hospital and that the bike appeared to be the only vehicle involved.

Hato Hone St John said it was notified of the incident at Mortlake Heights/Kennedy Rd at 12.38pm.

An ambulance, rapid response unit, operations manager and helicopter attended the scene.

“One patient, in critical condition, is being airlifted to Waikato Hospital.”

A SunLive reader reported that police, ambulance staff and a fire truck were at the scene.

“One lane was closed to accommodate emergency vehicles.”

The Serious Crash Unit has been advised.
