JonJon the cat has a loving new home after being abandoned by her owner on the doorstep of a Mount Maunganui vet clinic last week.
The terrified 14-year-old moggie was found by painters starting working at Bayfair Vets on Farm St about 7am last Thursday, inside a taped-up cardboard box.
Also in the box was a note from her former owner saying she was moving away and had been unable to find a new home for the cat she "loved so much".
Vet Steve Alderson said since JonJon appeared in the Bay of Plenty Times on Thursday, the clinic had received about 10 calls from people offering to adopt her.
"I think we could have found a home about six times over in the end."
Mr Alderson said JonJon's new home was with an older couple on a rural property in the Te Puke area.
"The people said she's going to have a lovely, happy life. It seems nice in a rural setting with no other cats and a couple, sounds just about idyllic actually."
Advertisements in the newspaper or online were good options for re-homing animals, he said.
