The student suspected of killing a university police officer has been captured after a tense SWAT team operation to apprehend him.
Texas Tech University, the sixth-largest university in the southern US state, was on lockdown for an hour after the school announced a student had shot an officer in the head and fled on foot.
A SWAT team searched for the suspect, believed to be 19-year-old student Hollis Daniels, while the university's official Twitter account warned students to take shelter.
An officer was conducting a student welfare check on Monday night on the campus when they found drugs and drug paraphernalia located in one person's room, a statement from Chris Cook, the managing director of the Office of Communications and Marketing for TTU said.
The officer arrested the student and took them down to the police station for a standard debriefing.
