A 40-year-old mother from Kentucky has been sentenced to 16 years in prison on charges of incest, sodomy and sexual abuse involving her young son.
Kelly Lynn South, 40, was sentenced by Jefferson Circuit Court Judge Olu Stevens after taking a plea agreement. South must also register as a lifetime sex offender, according to the Daily Mail.
South was arrested in October 2015 on five counts of first-degree sexual abuse, two counts of sodomy and one count of incest following an investigation by the Louisville Metro Police Department's Crimes Against Children's Unit.
According to an arrest report cited by the station WAVE3, the mother, then 38 years old, admitted to performing oral sex on the boy and engaging in other inappropriate activities with the child between September 2012 and September 2015.
On October 27, 2015, a grand jury indicted her for admitted sexual contact with her son while he was between the ages of four and seven.
"It's unimaginable the suffering this victim endured and will endure. This court action held accountable the victim's abuser and brought some justice for the crimes against the victim," Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear said in a press release announcing the plea deal that was cited by the Louisville Courier-Journal.
The mother has been out on $2,500 cash bond since 2015.
