LA PAZ, Bolivia (AP) Police say a judge in Bolivia has ordered the preventative detention of three suspects accused of robbing and raping an American tourist in the country's east.
The police chief in the tourist town of Samaipata, 480 kilometers southeast of the capital of La Paz, says the alleged attack occurred last Saturday.
Jose Medrano said Friday that among the suspects is a gym instructor. They are alleged to have attacked the victim as she left in a restaurant in Samaipata, which is frequented by tourists who visit a nearby archaeological site.
Judge Patricia Alandia in the city of Santa Cruz ordered that the three suspected be detained on charges of rape and aggravated robbery.
