SYDNEY (AP) California-born Brian Goorjian, who has been hailed the best national basketball coach Australia has had, will be inducted next month into the Australian Basketball Hall of Fame.
Goorjian, who is currently coaching the Dongguan Leopards in the Chinese Basketball Association, coached Australia in 115 games between 2002
and 2008, including the 2004 and 2008 Olympics Games, the 2006 Commonwealth Games at which the Boomers won gold and 2006 FIBA World Championships.
He is also the most successful coach in the history of the Australian National Basketball League, coaching in 735 games between 1988 and 2009 for a record 514 wins. In an NBL career spanning two decades, Goorjian amassed six NBL championships, six Coach of the Year awards, 19 consecutive NBL play-off appearances and 13 NBL Grand Final series appearances.
