Most of the country is in for mild weather for the remainder of the holiday weekend, MetService says.
"There'll be cloud in the east of both islands," MetService meteorologist Claire Flynn said.
"There's a moderate risk of thundery showers in Hawkes Bay, Gisborne and north of Hamilton but if they come, they'll be in isolated areas and aren't likely to last.
"Showers are expected in several other areas but they won't be significant. Most of the country will experience mild temperatures and improving conditions."
Tauranga will have fine, hot weather for the rest of the weekend but other holiday hotspots such as the Coromandel and Bay of Islands will also have to contend with showers.
