Anzac Day had many hues - but it's a fair bet Wanganui had the only paint by numbers.
One hundred separate paintings came together on the wall of the Community Arts Centre on Sunday to form a replica Simpson and his Donkey five metres high by four metres wide.
The painting will replace the scene of Wanganui with Mount Ruapehu in the background that has been up in Taupo Quay for four years.
Organiser Frances Sim-Higgins said she looked at the original painting last year and it was looking a bit old. "It was all bubbling underneath and looking very tatty so thought we had better replace it. An Anzac painting seemed right."
The brick wall was separated into grid lines making up 100 spaces. The painters were all given a copy of the work showing all the squares and their numbered section blown up.
