Next stop LA.
After a gruelling six days through New Mexico, former Wanganui endurance runner Perry Newburn has crossed into Arizona. It's the penultimate state in his trans-American run.
At the end of day 42, Newburn has just under 1000km left to travel having made it to Show Low. And while he has fallen too far behind to break the world record at 46 days eight hours and 35 minutes, he is well on track to claim the fastest masters time which stands at 52 days 11 hours and 58 minutes.
It is understood that would be in the top five recorded times for running across the US.
Newburn set out on September 1 from the steps of New York City Hall and has crossed 11 states so far on his way to Los Angeles. Newburn, who now lives in Feilding, said the last week held mixed fortunes.
