A woman who drunkenly took an illegal shortcut at a roundabout was rewarded with swift karmic retribution after causing damage to three other vehicles right under the nose of a police officer.
Meredith Jane Meads was intoxicated when driving her car up to the roundabout where Springvale Rd and Parsons St meet on June 5, Whanganui District Court was told on Tuesday.
"Instead of following the other vehicles around the roundabout, she drove straight over the roundabout," police prosecutor Sergeant Rachel Willemsen said.
Meads collided with two other vehicles and hit a give way sign, which fell and hit a third vehicle.
A police patrol car was waiting to enter the roundabout at the time and found Meads to have a breath alcohol reading of 980mcg, the legal limit being 400mcg.
