A dog attacked an elderly woman in Castlecliff this week.
The 76-year-old, who did not want to be named, passed a black mastiff while walking with friends on Manuka St and, "without any warning this dog just grabbed me by the buttock".
The woman and her friends yelled at the dog, which then sank its teeth into her jacket, shredding it, before letting go and running off.
The woman, who was left with "a massive bruise and a little bit of blood", said she had been taken by surprise.
Animal Control seized the dog. Wanganui District Council strategy and development manager Charlotte Almond said it was a cross-breed mastiff.
