A man who dragged his partner down the street by her hair earned prison time yesterday.
Huatahi Robert Tawhana became involved in an argument on March 9 and when his partner went to intervene, he grabbed her clothes and "tried to drag her down the driveway," said Judge Bridget Mackintosh in the Whanganui District Court.
After an alleged assault on a nephew, Tawhana's partner tried to get him to stop, which was when he dragged her by her hair down the street.
He then made threats about a firearm, said Judge Mackintosh, adding he had a "nasty history of violence".
Tawhana was sentenced on a charge of cultivating cannabis alongside his charge of male assaults female.
He received six months' imprisonment as well as six months' post-release conditions.
