The Chronicle "Rugby Rookies" have been chosen to attend today's Hurricanes-Chiefs Super 14 rugby friendly at Cooks Gardens at 6pm.
We received more entries than we could service, unfortunately, so some had to miss out ? but a big thank you for trying, and remember there will be other offers for sporting events as the year goes by.
The Chronicle will be looking to introduce people to sports they have not attended before. Watch this space. For all those lucky ones selected out of the barrel, we attempted to contact you overnight, and your entries have either been published earlier this week, or in today's Chronicle.
If you haven't heard from us, please either contact the Chronicle today or arrive at the Maria Place entrance to Cooks Gardens by 5.30pm ? where you will be met by Chronicle reporter Merania Karauria, who will give you your allocated tickets and escort you to your seat in the southern-sided "Whiskas" stand .
If you arrive later than that, your tickets will be left at that gate in a Chronicle envelope.
Here are today's lucky entries:
Jaymie Massey, is proud of her heritage, and while she lives in the Wanganui area, she'll be backing the other side: Being born and bred in the South Waikato until I was 13 definitely makes me a Chiefs girl! Now that I live four hours away, I never get to see a Chiefs' home game, so this is a next best thing. I'm even willing to possibly be the only person in the crowd cheering for the Chiefs!
Marton's Deane Wilson has a special reason for wanting to go: I want to apply for a double pass on behalf of my wife Justine. I've been to a few Super 12 games but she has never been to any. She is a Hurricanes supporter and I would like to surprise her. She's due to give birth to our first child in February, and I would like to take her to a game before we start devoting all our time to our child.
And all the way from Ohakune, comes a youngster who's never watched rugby in a stadium: My name is Matthew Dowman and I would like to win a rugby ticket. It's cool to watch and fun to play rugby because I like to run, tackle and kick the ball, and watching it helps me improve. Rugby is awesome and my cousin James Hilson thinks it's pretty cool as well because we get to play with each other and the rest of the team. I've played rugby and seen it on telly, but I've never ever seen it in real life in a stadium because we live in a small town with no stadium. But mum and dad are happy to take me and my brother and sisters down if I win a ticket. I really like the Hurricanes because it's Tana Umaga's team. I'm nine years old and hope you really like my letter.
And another from Marton, with the same reason ? and Adam Wigglesworth also likes the Hurricanes because they play when it's "real wet:" My name is Adam Wigglesworth and I'm seven-years-old. I play rugby for Marton under-8s, and I love watching rugby on TV. I have never been to a live rugby match ? my dad says I'm too young and can't stay up late. I'd like to go to the Hurricanes because I've never seen a game in a stadium. I like the Hurricanes because they play when it's real wet, and they're tough, and I like their uniforms.
Young Fergus Smith has no doubt about the All Blacks winning this year, and Wanganui too ? but he wants to check the Hurricanes out: My name is Fergus Smith and I'm eight-years-old. I would like to go to the Hurricanes because I've never been to a live game before. Every time there is something on I ask my dad if I can go, but he says we can't afford it. The Hurricanes are my favourite team and Tana Umaga is my favourite player. The All Blacks are going to win the World Cup in France this year and I'm going to watch all the games on Tv ? and Wanganui is going to win the Heartland Championship.
Live rugby just the ticket for rookies
