PALMERSTON NORTH - Former New Zealand First election candidate Suzanne Bruce's partner, Barry Dennis Jinkinson, had a warrant issued for his arrest yesterday on animal cruelty charges.
Judge Gregory Ross issued the warrant after Jinkinson failed to appear in the Palmerston North District Court. A warrant was issued against Bruce, who faces similar charges, when she failed to appear in the Feilding District Court on April 12.
The couple from Eketahuna, in the Wairarapa, are believed to have left the country.
The charges, which relate to alleged cruelty by neglect of calves, were laid in November, during the run up to the general election.
Bruce who had been standing for the Rangitikei electorate, said the charges were part of a political "dirty tricks" campaign which had already made her withdraw her candidacy.
