Te Tai Tokerau MP Dover Samuels says he believes he can work with the Prime Minister again following a meeting late last night.
Mr Samuels and his wife Jacqui met with Helen Clark and Labour Party President Mike Williams in Auckland.
He says there has been a thawing in his relationship with the prime minister - a relationship which turned sour after she sacked him as Maori Affairs Minister last year.
Mr Samuels says Miss Clark has not apologised as such, but he says he feels a significant bridge has been crossed.
He says there was a recognition of what his family has been through in the past year.
Mr Samuels says he believes he now knows who was responsible for the incest and drugs allegations which led to his demise.
Meanwhile, Mr Samuels says he will not be joining the Prime Minister on a two-day tour of the Far North this week because of prior commitments.
