Basketball: France gets opening win over Philippines

France has overcome the Philippines 93-84 in the opening game of the Tall Blacks' pool at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Manila.

Euroleague MVP Nando De Colo led France with 27 points, while San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker scored 21.

The Tall Blacks will play the Philippines tonight before facing France early on Friday morning.

The top two sides from each group progress to the semi-finals, with only the tournament winner qualifying for Rio.

Canada's beaten Turkey 77-69 in the opening game of the other group.
