Racing: Kavanagh heads east

South Australian trainer Sam Kavanagh is planning a move to Sydney racing for the career opportunity of a lifetime.

Along with fiancee Kelly Fawcett, the 26-year-old will move east for the new racing season in August.

He is yet to know if their base will be at Rosehill or Warwick Farm.

"I'm here until the end of the season but I expect it to be a full move when we go to Sydney," Kavanagh told the Herald Sun.

"We were told we had 20 stalls at Rosehill but then they said if we didn't get into Rosehill we would definitely be at Warwick Farm.

"Everything is a bit of a nightmare at the moment with them shuffling trainers in and out but it will settle and we will be supported and get a leg up. Within three or four months we will know precisely what we are doing but it was important our owners know our intentions now with the Magic Millions sales on next week."

Kavanagh went on his own in January this year but has had seven wins from just 28 runners this season for an impressive strike rate of 25 per cent.

He has been planning the move to Sydney for several years but needed to establish a profile in South Australia before taking the plunge.
