Wellington Police are investigating after a 53-year-old man died on Saturday of head injuries he sustained a week earlier.
Detective Inspector Darrin Thomson said James Whenuaroa, from Lower Hutt, was found seriously injured at the Arlington St apartment block on Saturday, June 17.
Police were called shortly before midnight. Whenuaroa was taken to Wellington Hospital but died a week laterof his injuries.
"Police are working to establish what caused his head injuries that night and are seeking any information from members of the public who may know exactly where he was," Thomson said.
They have established that he was in the Wellington CBD, between Manners St and the Arlington Apartments between 5.30pm and 11.50pm that night.
He was wearing a dark-coloured padded jacket, a black beanie, and black track pants with white writing down the leg when he was injured.
Thomson said police want to hear from anyone who was with Whenuaroa or spoke to him that night, as well as anyone who was near the apartment block that evening and saw "anything unusual or concerning".
